Speaker Preparation

PCs will be provided in each meeting room. You should provide your presentation prior to speaking and you are requested not to present from your own computer.

It is possible to send your finalised presentation in advance using the following link upload your presentation. Please see below for further details about how to send and name your presentation. Alternatively, you can visit the speaker preview room upon your arrival at Manchester Central and upload your presentation from a memory stick or CD. Please note that if you email your presentation you should still report to the speaker preparation room upon arrival at the venue to review your presentation. You are also advised to bring a back-up copy in case there has been a problem receiving the file.

It is preferred that you go to the preparation room the day before your presentation - if this is not possible, please check in as far in advance as possible.

The speaker preparation room will be open as follows:

Sunday 28 June: 13.30 - 19.30
Monday 29 June: 07.30 - 17.30
Tuesday 30 June: 07.30 - 17.30
Wednesday 1 July: 07.30 - 12.00

Preparation of Slides

All visual presentations should be produced in PowerPoint and arranged to be compatible with PowerPoint 2010. The IT technician will check the presentation for compatibility, copy your presentation onto the master computer and then download it onto the computer in the correct room. For your convenience, the technician in each room (apart from the smaller Exchange Rooms) will operate the presentation computer and advance your slides on your command via a cue light system.

To avoid problems with duplicate filenames at the conference, when preparing your presentation on your own machine you should first create a folder for your presentation named: yourname-Sessiontitle-dateofpresentation – e.g. SMITH-LifeonMars-01072012

If you are going to use embedded graphics and/or sound clips, you should copy all of the relevant files into this folder. You should then create the PowerPoint presentation file with the name yourname-Sessiontitle-dateofpresentation, in the same folder. Any link to graphic and sound clips should be to the copied file in the folder. This will alleviate linking problems within PowerPoint when transferring to the show machines. The whole of your named folder should then be copied to CD or USB drive.

Further notes about creating PowerPoint presentations can be downloaded by clicking here.

PowerPoint is provided as standard. If you require other software, please let us know in advance.

At the Time of Your Presentation

Please make sure that you know the day and time of your presentation. See the programme page on this website for details. You are asked to check in at your meeting room 30 minutes prior to the start of your session to familiarize yourself with the equipment including lapel microphones, to check your slides are loaded and to meet with the stage manager and session chair(s). Please sit on the front row of the auditorium near to the stage steps.
