Local support groups

Our network of local support groups are run by people affected by osteoporosis, for the benefit of people living with the disease.

There are 700 support group volunteers who belong to just over 100 groups. Volunteers belonging to a support group take on a variety of roles such as chairperson, secretary, teasurer, telephone contact person, fundraiser, hosts or helping hands at events.

Many members enjoy meeting other people affected by the condition and like to share their experiences with others. Most groups meet regularly and provide information about local services and practical matters relating to osteoporosis services in the area.

Here's what a member said after joining their local group:

"I remember how it felt to be diagnosed with osteoporosis. I wondered, and worried, about what lay ahead. But after meeting others in a similar position, finding out about the treatments available and what I could do to manage my condition, I found I could live a full and near normal life."
