South West (England) falls, hip fractures and bone health review
This was a joint regional review of falls, hip fractures and bone health services, conducted in 2009. Its aim was to narrow the considerable variation in clinical practice, as shown by the HQIP and RCP National Clinical and Organisational Audits of falls and bone health of older people
The review was conducted by a taskforce, comprising the NHS South West Strategic Health Authority (SHA), Government Office for the South West, the UK Department of Health, health and social care professionals and the National Osteoporosis Society.
As part of the review, representatives of the taskforce met with key members of each health and social care community in the South West. The performance of each community was judged against the falls and fractures public policy framework in England, as set out here.
More information about the review can be accessed at http://www.southwestfallsandfractures.org.uk/. The final review report is due to be published in 2010.
