Hello everyone, new to this so hope I'm doing it right!
I started Forsteo just over 4 weeks ago after my last Dexa scan showed no gain after 2ys on Protelos. I'd previously taken Alendronic Acid and experienced a yellow card response to it 3 years ago. I have severe Osteoporosis of my lumbar spine and the recent Dexa shows I'm now osteoporotic in my hips as well. Since starting my new pen device at the beginning of this week I have been woken with severe calf cramp on one night and my back has been killing me for two days. I don't think it's bone pain, it feels muscular and does not go away even after ibuprofen and paracetamol. Alongside this, I'm experiencing pain in my knees - just below the kneecaps and I feel really weak. These symptoms are new and I was told to stop using the drug immediately and visit the Rheumatologist on Tuesday next week. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced what I'm describing whilst using Forsteo and whether the effects are transient or enduring. please? Thank you

Hi

I understand that too much calcium in the system can lead to muscular pain. Perhaps you should ask for this to be checked.

Hi
If you take Protelos your DEXA scan needs to be read differently , see this thread http://www.nos.org.uk/forum/Topic5349-3-1.aspx?Highlight=Protelos+Dexa+scan .

Thanks, Sarah, I was aware that a Dexa after Strontium is read differently and it was after this adjustment I was told that there had been little or no gain. One year later, after another Dexa I was told that I had developed osteoporosis in my hips - which previously were osteopenic, hence starting Teriparatide.

Hi, and thank you for your response. I had 7 lots of blood taken on Tuesday and I'm still off the Teriparatide while these are checked. I did notice that calcium and vitamin D were on the list of checks, so I'll keep you posted.
