I have been advised by my GP and consultant at the hospital that I require Zoledronate given once a year by infusion.  I have researched the drug company, Novartis who supply this drug and am really quite scared of the side effects.  Has anyone out there had this treatment and if so what were their side effects.  Any information would be more than grateful.  Thanks Mo.

Hi, I have had Zoledronate infusion twice so far (annually) and so far I have not had any side effects, I can't say I feel any different, or better, but as I haven't fallen at all this year I'm not sure whether it's beneficial, but will keep going.   I broke my hip, and had compressed fractures in the knee last year, I also had Forsteo and that was wonderful, but I believe you can only have one course of 18 months of it. Since I stopped that (3 years ago) I've deteriorated quite a bit.

Hello Nano

I have also been recommended to have an annual injection but am not sure which one yet. I was interested in you mentioning Forsteo, how was this  given and did you have any side effects.

Dear Mo

I too have been prescribed Zoledronate.  I suffer from oseteporosis and for some 8-9 years now I have been receiving APD IV treatment three times each year.  The Zoledronate is an infusion only once a year which of course is more convenient for me.  I have not started the Zoledronate, my first influsion will be in March this year.  I must add that I have had a recent bone density scan and Dr Davie at the Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital was extremely pleased with the improvement in my bone density, so the APD treatment must be working.  However, I also do weight bearing exercises 2-3 times each week which I think helps.  I very rarely had any side effects with the APD treatment and I only hope this continues when I start the Zoledronate.  When I say side effects I mean the "flu like" symptoms etc.  Occasionally I did feel unwell afterwards, but I was not sure whether it was a symptom or a virus that was going round!

Well good luck with your treatment.

Janet

Hi  - I will have my third infusion of Aclasta tomorrow and so far have had no side effects that I am aware of.  Hopefully after this one I will get a scan in nine months time and maybe there will be some improvement in the bad oesteoporosis in my spine.  I cannot say I feel any different since starting the infusions - if anything maybe my pain has lessened slightly.

Hi, I have just been advised to try Zoledronate and wondered how you have got on with it.
