Like you Beryl, I have lost height - 4inches in fact- and my digestion is all crushed and my ribs and hips are almost touching. My GP is supportive and has spoken to my consultant but there seems to be nothng to do but she has referred me to a gastrologist(!) spelling.

I have had a very good physio who referred me for hydrotherapy which has been a big help in getting me going again . Some days better than others (today bad and depressed) but I do manage to do some shopping but get tired very quickly. Such a life change as two years ago I was playing tennis. Pain patch is a must to get and keep mobile. I am on forsteo as I could not tolerate the AA which I think has caused some of the digestive problems. I am so glad someone out there has the same problem as me but I know that is not a lot of comfort for you. But I am better than this time last year! I got help with acupuncture - perhaps you could investigate that. Ask for physio and get them to contact the Physio at Bath hospital ( who I understand works with the NOS) who told my physio what exercise would be suitable for my back - extension - all on the NHS. All the best

Oh Beryl, how I feel for you. I only had two fractures but I did experience a bit of an odd look when I asked the gp for physio. It seems that the medical profession arent geared up to deal with chronic pain and dont know what to do about it. I agree not much takes it away apart from making time in ones day to walk a bit, sit a bit then lie down to relieve the pressure.

Ive been seeing physio who gave me very gentle exercises but alas hes signed me off as he commented that there might be the biggest compensation claim in history should he give me hands on physio.

Ive found walking further each time helps. You may find where the pain exists it can move to other parts of the spine if you stiffen up a lot. Do try finding the right seating position too as I feel we tend to slump due to energy required just to sit up straight.

Why not ask for extra vit.d should you need it. Ask gp to test your bloods for any depletion. Can I ask why youve given up on all medications? I know you state gastric problems however Im pretty sure there are new ones around the corner which dont cause these. I am at present due to see consultant to look at alternatives. Think its a case of us asking what side effects what positive effects using statistics and keep as active as is possible with that horrid chronic pain.

I do hope you get some relief. Take care

Hi Yawn, I had some spinal fractures in 2009, also a compression fracture, all in the spine. They were T fractures, it took me a long time to get 'well' and much of that early time was spent as you are, do not give up, take the medicine, do the physio, try the short walks don't overdo it,progress will happen. I was also lucky that our NHS physio's ran a Pilates class, I joined and was lucky 'cos my physio took the class on the days I was able to attend. I couldn't start the classes until I had finished the full course of physio. Most of the Pilates was done by us being on our backs and as we progressed -months down the line - we were able to do some movements whilst being on all 4's, at the same time my walking distance improved. Keep at it, don't loose heart it can be a long haul but there is daylight at the end. Good Luck.
