Dear Aemi

Thank you for your post asking for further information about the dizziness you have experienced whilst taking teriparatide (Forsteo).

Dizziness is a known side effect with Forsteo and we do hear on the helpline from some enquirers with similar problems to those you are having. The drug company information for Forsteo lists this side effect as common which means that it was found to happen in between 1 in 10 to 1 in 100 people.  I can find nothing to suggest how long the dizziness will continue but as a general rule side effects should probably subside quite quickly after you stop taking the drug.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) collect data on side effects for all prescribed medicines. This is done through the yellow card system and it is important that your side effects have been reported via this system. If you or your doctors have not already done this you can find more detail about how to do it here You can also look at the reports that have been previously made about this drug on the website here It is interesting to see that for Forsteo the most commonly reported side effect is dizziness.

As these symptoms have continued for 4 weeks it is important to discuss them with your doctor to rule out any other reason for them and to explore your future treatment options for osteoporosis.

Best wishes
