Hello
I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis after a bad fall in which I broke the neck of my femur. My mother had the disease so I had asked for a bone scan 10 years ago but was told that as I had not broken any bones it was not necessary.
Firstly as the bone density scan was done on my forearm and I was just told by the doctor that I was below -2.5 and therefore had osteoporosis, would it be to any advantage to have scans of anywhere else in my body. My main concern is my spine which I have been told has degeneration and I suffer from back ache and numbness of my arms whilst lying down. .
Also as I am now taking Calcium with Vit D3 should I also make a point of eating things with calcium or can you have too much?
Finally, I have three daughters (who are incidently vegetarian though not vegan) and would like to advise them on anything they might do to prevent osteoporosis. They are aged 35, 32 and 28. Should they have their bone density checked?
Thank you and sorry this is so long. So many questions to ask!

sadly this seems to be a post code lottery - Depending where you live your doc might send you for a DEXA if you want one ( as in my case luckily) however Ive heard plenty folk here saying the only way they can get them on a regular basis is to pay themselves.
About time the government made this available to everyone!
