| Having been a regular exerciser for many years I found the weight, accumulated since my fall, difficult to lose. I was in despair then suddenly two weeks ago it began to go. I am not a medical person so cannot give advice, only tell you that, in my case, returning to gentle exercise, a soon as possible, is working for me. My only 'problems' are slopes and steps because I've been left with limited movement but, I can walk so limited movement is a small price to pay isn't it? DottyAnn

| I find that getting older plus having less capacity to exercise means I'm slowly putting on weight. I was determined after Christmas to do something about it and it went well for the first few weeks when I resisted temptation and made myself go for a little walk instead of indulging when I felt myself weakening. Then I broke two toes a couple of weeks ago and I'm sure I can feel it creeping back on. Soooooo depressing. I've been advised to try keeping off my feet as much as possible till they're healed, but it's a tricky balancing act between the longterm needs of the toes and trying to remain active for the sake of my bone density. Any suggestions?

When I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis I telephoned the NOS helpline and got a small booklet of weight lifting exercises to do, just gentle ones, not the sort I do now (I do heavy weight lifting now) but I'm sure they would help you as you don't even need to get out of your chair to do some of them. As well as weight lifting you can do exercises with a band, I think they're called therabands, but at the NOS conference two years ago everyone was given one of these bands and the whole room was doing exercises with them, all sitting in our chairs I still have my band
Osteoporosis - Strontium Ranelate, Dekristol vitamin D3 20,000 IU/week, weight lifting, walking and vibration platform exercise, alkaline loaded diet, vitamin K2 MK-7 100mcg/d, K2 MK-4 5mg/d. Diabetes - Repaglinide, low carb diet and exercise. Congenital heart defect - Omacor and CoQ10

Thanks, Anne. I'll look into the therabands. There are some very small weights here belonging to my son that I could try out too.
Incidentally, how come I can't see the posts I am replying to when I'm posting? Am I doing something dense or is that the way it's set up?

When you're replying to a post, if you click the + symbol alongside a bit of text that says "Last 10 posts", the previous posts will appear just underneath - give that a try and let me know if you're still not able to view them.
