Hi everyone,
I've just rejoined as a member and I'm excited to see there is now a forum for pregnancy related op. I think it's great that you have the opportunity to share information and concerns. I was diagnosed (eventually) when I had my son 20 years ago and ended up with 4 spinal fractures. I'm due to have a scan soon and wondering about what drug I should go on. It seems like a minefield! At the moment I only take calcium with vit D which I don't think is really necessary, as I was never lacking in calcium. I would love to hear from anyone in a similar position?
I'm also trying to get in contact with some girls I met at the prenancy related op conference back in 1992. One girl was called Karen and the other was Kate. I often wonder how they are; so I thought I'd just mention it in case they use this forum. I sympathise with everyone in this forum and if anyone wants to talk to me, please do. I do understand what you are going through but you will get through it.

| Suzy Q Hi O J Thanks for replying. Is Cholecalciferol calcium? Have you reached the menopause if you don't mind me asking? Have you been offered any other op drugs or HRT? How long ago were you diagnosed and how are you feeling? Cheers Suzy Q

Hi Suzy
Cholecalciferol is Vitamin D3, it is included in the Calcichew Tabs which you can get on prescription. Calcichew Forte has both calcium carbonate (equiv 500mg calcium) and 400 iu colecalciferol (equiv to 10 micrograms of Vitamin D3).
Yes have passed through menopause didn't do HRT. I was diagnosed this year. Was offered Alendronic Acid but do not take that as feel personally it is not for me, I didn't feel right about it at all.
I'm feeling ok, I have ache in my right hip but have had this on and off for some time, the doc says it may not be anything to do with osteoporosis. I exercise regularly and just looking into the slow burn exercise routine too.
On reading about drugs and causes of osteoporosis, my reading revealed that those who took HRT and developed breast cancer were required to take another drug that also caused bone thinning!!!!! Sort of a catch 22 with HRT I think.
I also think that everyone diagnosed with osteoporosis should get their vitamin D levels checked. Possibly the NHS should check women around menopause time for vitamin D deficiency too, it may serve both the NHS and patients as a preventative measure.
I hope you are ok?
Have a great weekend.
Take good care.
