I have been given some Alendronic Acid which I have taken for a month , and just cannot go on with it . I have severe IBS which recently wit a special diet has been well under contro until I started taking this medication. About 5 hours after I take a tablet I suffer with a very bad stomach which lasts for about 6 days, until just before the next tablet is due. I have decided not to take any more, and was wondering about Evista, and whether anyone else has tried this medication.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Sascha

Hi, a very belated reply, have only jus had any time to look at the NOS website as Im off work, with backache(or collapsing vertebrae. dr won't send me for a scan, as its "a waste of time" read costs money?, nobody will touch you with osteoporosis!!)! I tried evista when I was first diagnosed 9 years ago, and oh my days went for a scan after a year of taking it and had lost a further 4% density! I pay for my bone scan privately, used to be £25 now crept up to £45! I take alendronic acid, once weekly, initially I had to take esomeprazole to cope with the stomach problems but thats all settled down now. Bones are just about holding their own, I take adcal too, and sadly too many painkillers but thats another story!!
