Hi Marianneehk,

Thanks for the links ! The osteopenia3.com one is one I've found very useful too ! I looked thoroughly through the Australian site at the doctor's section but I could not find the calculation for DEXA adjustments, only this:

"Patients treated with Strontium ranelate will exhibit significant increases in BMD. Changes of up to 4% per annum in the lumbar spine and 2% per annum at the femoral neck have been reported with DXA measurement. It is recommended that BMD only be used to determine compliance with therapy as changes in BMD cannot be accurately determined."

I see that on the Australian site they also test plasma alkaline phosphatase as part of their tests in the management of osteoporosis - my consultant does a bone profile test every time my vitamin D levels are tested and this includes alkaline phosphatase - currently high

You might be interested in this about exercise, it is the kind of weight lifting I do: http://www.nos.org.uk/forum/Topic458-5-1.aspx

and some more websites on osteoporosis: http://www.nos.org.uk/forum/Topic23-5-1.aspx

I wonder if bone density can be measured on MRI scans ? If they could then strontium wouldn't make an artifactual difference as MRI doesn't work using x-rays and so it would be a more accurate scan for a person taking strontium.

I shall try and find out.
