It's a new medication, sometimes also called denosumab. Here's a link to the Summary of Product Characterisitics from the Electronic Medicines Compendium: Prolia

Special warnings and precautions for use include osteonecrosis of the jaw (as with the bisphosphonates) and skin infections which may require hospitalisation ! This is because the drug affects the immune system. Side effects include infections, rash and pain in extremities. All these and more details listed in the above link.

I think I'll wait and watch on this one

Osteoporosis - Strontium Ranelate, Dekristol vitamin D3 20,000 IU/week, weight lifting, walking and vibration platform exercise, alkaline loaded diet, vitamin K2 MK-7 100mcg/d, K2 MK-4 5mg/d. Diabetes - Repaglinide, low carb diet and exercise. Congenital heart defect - Omacor and CoQ10

Thanks for the website info on Prolia.   It is now being suggested for me.   I have not been able to tolerate other treatments because of the digestive troubles they cause for me.

Has anybody actually tried the Prolia treatment?

Prolia has also been suggested to me, but i am a bit reluctant to try it as it is so new and the side effects sound a bit worrying. I would be interested to hear from anyone who is taking it.

"This drug inhibits bone resorption" I think this line says it all!
Isnt this the method that bisphonsphonates work? Personally I would rather a drug that encouraged both resorbsion AND new bone formation. ie, Protelos.
The choice may depend on your lifestyle but for me I want to have tough healthy bones not hard, dense, brittle ones.
