Hello everybody;    I've been following the discussions under this topic with great interest ;  I've been taking Strontium Ranelate for 2 months now and thought I was doing fine on it;  recently I started feeling very tired, unusually so, on waking up with a dry mouth and sleepy eyes,  and feeling very thirsty.  I stopped taking Strontium Ranelate and wait to see if things improve;  I would be very interested to know if anyone has experienced anything similar on Strontium Ranelate.  STrontium Ranelate contains 20 mg of Aspartame, and I know that Aspartame can have side effects , including eye problems, sleepiness, and great thirst; I will speak to my consultant at the hospital about taking Algae Cal instead.

Best wishes to all of you

Carmen

Carmen - don't forget the Strontium Boost as well as the AlgaeCal (although taken at different times of the day). Good Luck, John

Hi JC,

well, have just seen GP again who is under pressure to give me the alendronic acid. I spoke about Protelos, and she says it is not recommended! I am now considering the strontium boost...can you tell me if it has any sweeteners in, and what they are? ( are they aspartame?)

It is seeming that I have to follow my own path, though i would prefer the blessing of the GP.

Has anyone seen the Saveourbones site? What do you think?

Did you see my reply to you about Saveourbones in the 'too much phosphate' question you posted a couple of days ago: http://www.nos.org.uk/forum/Topic1270-6-1.aspx

Teresart - I don't think there are any sweenteners in AlgaeCal or Strontium Boost.

The only item I wasn't sure about was the following which is listed for AlgaeCal:

Boron (FruiteX B calcium fructoborate) - the web site has the following on it: http://www.algaecal.com/boron.html - which sounds good to me but then I'm not a chemist!

Hi Anne, thanks, no I did not see it...as I have at present such a lot of info. to get through. saw GP on monday, whose attitude seems to be that I should take the alendronic acid.

I have decided I willl not, and will go back and try and get her to prescribe the protelos...I am not sure if they can or cannot do this, but otherwise I will have to do it privately i expect, and/or get the strontium citrate, also privately.

It is tricky about soy milk: i have been having it for some years, and now feel I must find an alternative, as i don`t tolerate cows milk very well...

Hi Teresart,

I do not tolerate cow's milk or any dairy products at all but manage to get all my calcium from my diet entirely - leafy green veggies such as kale, cabbage, okra, and many more are high in calcium. So are sardines with bones, and nuts such as almonds and seeds such as sesame. Any calcium that there is in soy is only added, such as calcium carbonate, the same calcium as in supplements, because soy doesn't naturally contain any calcium.

Best of luck when you see your GP. Perhaps you could print off one of the leaflets from the NOS about Protelos.

Sorry you didn't get my last message - I find it's best to click the setting to get sent notifications of mails to the topics you have asked questions on or are interested in otherwise the forum isn't very intuitive for finding new messages !

Sorry James ! I still don't see the coloured things flashing where there are new messages - that worked on the 'Ask the Helpline Nurses' forum, they came up in brilliant red, but never on our forum, at least not for me.

all the best,
Anne

Hmm, that is very strange Anne. I'll continue to look into it - I'll make a post soon showing the different ways of seeing if there have been new posts.
