| I took Actonel for 3 years but 3 weeks ago had a very severe reaction - I usually took my Actonel on Thursday - very carefully waiting at least 45 minutes before eating and always sitting up straight for that time - but on the Friday I took my glucosamine pill and had the most terrible spasm in the oesophagus - the pain was terrible and went on for several hours - I went to A and E at the local hospital - - they gave me anti spasmodic tiny pills and then an injection of morphine. I went home after 5 hours and threw the Actonel away -after reading problems with the oesophagus as a definite side effect. Now I have been prescribed Adcal - and have just read all the side effect problems with that ! Has anyone else had similar problems with Actonel ?

| I haven't had the problems you speak of but I did have problems with the actonel. Stomach ache/pain was one of them. I'm ok with Adcal/D providing I take in morning and late afternoon/early evening. Someone on here (thank you so much) gave a web addy for peoples experiences of various drugs. It make very interesting reading. And I wished I had known about it before I took, in particular the Alendronic Acid. I have since looked up Evista on it. Not got round to actonel yet! www.askapatient.com See what you think.

| I have tried both Alendronic Acid and Actonel 35mg weekly dose meds. Both of them caused stomach pains. I'm now taking Actonel 5mg daily dose which I have no problems with. I take it 30 minutes before breakfast with a full glass of water.
