Hi

I am new. I am a 61 year old female. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis two years ago. 6 months ago I used a rebounder (not knowing that I was putting myself at any risk) and fractured two of my vertebrae T7 T8. Since then I have been in continual pain despite the doctors having told me they should have healed in 3 months. Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone have advice on what exercises I can safely do? Please? B'dette.

How dreadful that you fractured some vertebre And what a warning to others about the dangers of rebounders if you have osteoporosis

There are exercises you can do safely if you have had osteoporotic fractures, though obviously when they have healed - have a look in the Books & Information section of the forum. Briefly, there are exercise bands, weight lifting, Tai Chi for osteoporosis, plus walking. You could ask your GP for a referral to a physiotherapist who should be able to give you specific advice for your back.

all the best,
Anne

Osteoporosis - Strontium Ranelate, Dekristol vitamin D3 20,000 IU/week, weight lifting, walking and vibration platform exercise, alkaline loaded diet, vitamin K2 MK-7 100mcg/d, K2 MK-4 5mg/d. Diabetes - Repaglinide, low carb diet and exercise. Congenital heart defect - Omacor and CoQ10

Thank you for your speedy response. I am walking regularly and attempting a little more in the way of exercise............but nothing changes.........I always have severe pain! I just wondered if there is anyone who has had the same thing and can tell me when things will begin to improve? It's frustrating how easily ones quality of life can change in a single bounce.

A rebounder is a mini trampoline.............................for people who have NOT got osteoporosis its said to be one of the most valuable forms of all round exercise - especially for strengthening the bones!!

Thanks for the warning. As for your recovery time, it's been my experience that some spinal fractures simply take longer to heal than others.

Have you looked at the patient leaflets on the NOS website. There are some about vertebroplasty & kyphoplasty. Perhaps this would be an option? Get well soon.

Hi B'dette,

I have the same problem as you - 3 fractures since Jan this year and the one at T11 is yet to heal properly.  I still get a lot of pain.  I'm hoping with a little more time (and patience!!) it will heal. as the other two have.
