I had a quick skim through the foods listed from the Essence of Life link, & did find one confusion.  Under the 'Unknown' section, brazil nuts were listed, then further down the page, brazil nuts were listed under 'Highly Acid Forming Foods'.  I find the whole acid/alkaline food subject very confusing, & don't follow it as I want to enjoy all foods (having had many issues with food until I was in my early 20's), and don't want to make different meals for myself as son & husband enjoy a varied diet.  What surprises me is that in the 17 years since I was diagnosed, not one doctor or hospital consultant has ever mentioned following this type of diet.  I will mention it when I have my next appointment at the end of the year.

I'm with you Karen. It is all too confusing.  But thought provoking as well.I feel I have a good varied diet. And my alkaline reading was ok on a recent blood test. but I will do some more reading on this.

I read this articles with interest as I do need to know what is alkaline and acid, but feel quite confused as in the Nat Ost guidelines state that Oxalic Acid (which bind to calium and prevents it's absorbtion) is in RHUBARB - which is in the list of alkaline forming food.

So does this mean that you can eat Rhubarb , but not with any calcium rich food?

As if it does mean that, then this list, on its own is USELESS for osteoporosis sufferers. A list of 'food combinations' is required, which says which foods should NOT be eaten together.

Tscore Lumbar spine -3.3, Femoral neck -2.6, Hip -2.2
Alkali diet (+ no caffeine/sugar/salt/rhubarb/spinach) and exercise and supplements of Vit D (2,000IUs daily), Vit K2 as MK7, vit K2 Menatetrenone, Cod liver oil.
