| I am home after a lovely break. I tried sardines and cabbage for breakfast today and it wasn't too bad. I will have it again on non working mornings. I had home made veg soup at lunchtime, I piled the veg on my evening meal and had fruit for 'afters'. I know I can do this but it is going to take some work. I haven't been out for a walk today but have mowed the lawn (45 mins) and spent another hour tidying in the garden. I have work tomorrow and plan to travel 2 miles cycling, walk 2 miles and reverse for journey home. I will call at the supermarket as I pass to buy more veg for soup. I am thinking of having veg soup before my evening meal, so I can eat more veg and fill myself up without the need for the puddings I often have. Just about to google for some recipes. Best wishes to everyone. Margie PS I have ordered the book re the Super slow weight lifting.

I managed the planned cycling and walking yesterday and have done it again today. I have added omelette with veg to my breakfast menu. Yesterday I made a batch of broccoli soup and one of carrot and coriander and have frozen it away in individual portions for my lunches or evening snacks. I am missing my comfort food but am trying to think of my bones when I am tempted and it helps (a little). Regards Margie

| Whilst browsing through some second hand books on Saturday I found a copy of Food Combining for Health by Doris Grant and Jean Joice published 1984. It is about the 'Hay diet' but I was very interested to see that this diet aims at 80% Alkaline to 20% Acid which is what I was aiming for in hope of helping my bones. Well I am happy to say that the meal plans, recipes and ideas seem to be just what I was looking for. I have already started to follow the guidelines and have seen lots of simple recipes that I intend to try. This seems to be the inspiration I was asking for. I spent lots and lots of the weekend gardening, have cycled today and have my yoga class this evening (with a very cautious teacher who is aware of my condition.) Tomorrow is my day off so a decent walk is a must. Best wishes to all Margie

Hi Margie, Join the club! I too am full of good intentions and am now 'forcing' myself to eat a good mixed salad every day as well as all the other foods containing all the minerals and vitamins that we hope will provide a miracle cure! I've decided, after taking only 4 biphosphorous tablets, and with an appointment in May for the intravenous injection, not to continue with the treatment. I am having lots of problems with my teeth at the moment and adding biphosphorates into the equation complicates matters. Do other people have trouble with their teeth? I'm convinced that there is a connection between low bone density and problems with the teeth.

| SheilB I will post some recipes if you can be patient with me. This plan has really inspired me and moved me away from all my 'stodge'. I have been having different fresh fruit chopped up with pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds for breakfast. A 'starch lunch' which has been either a jacket potato with large mixed salad or some of my home made soup, followed by banana or raisins. Evening meals have been small portion of meat or fish with lots of salad or veg, (but not potatoes as I have had starch at lunchtime) and fruit to follow if I am still hungry. I have been helped by the lists of 'starch' and 'protein' foods supplied with the book and have tried to follow the plan this week with the food I had already bought for the week. The recipes are probably very basic for many people but they are what I need as I have never eaten enough veg or cooked it other than plain, stir fried or in stews. A list of '25 Fruit and vegetable salads for Alkaline meals' includes: Chopped apple, chives and cabbage Chopped apple, celery and cress cauliflower sprigs with cooked peas and sliced green peppers sprinkled with chopped mint The rest are equally simple and obvious to many I am sure, but these simple beginnings are just what I needed. I do intend to carry on with this plan and hope to include a few recipes from it each week. First of all I have to go to my mum's flat for a few days to help my sister and brother empty it as mum has recently moved into a nursing home. In the meantime I have shopped for extra fruit and veg to leave in the fridge for when I get back so I can continue with my improved diet. Best wishes Margaret

| Cymraes Worry about my teeth was one of the reasons I stopped taking alendroinc acid. I have read reports on 'the net' of the dentist being the first to spot that their patient had low bone density. I suspect you may be right. Good luck with the salad. If you want to share any ideas for getting the right minerals etc I would be happy to read them. So far I am having sardines and far more veg but I have much to learn. Best wishes Margie

| Margie It was a huge decision for me to stop the alendronic tablets as I am 64 yrs old and have multiple spinal fractures. I have really been 'stopped in my tracks', having always been very active. Two nights ago one of my eye teeth literally 'crumbled' into 3 pieces. I had only recently paid a fortune to have it filled. Have you read Dr Marilyn Glenville's book on the subject of osteoporosis? There is a lot of info in that about diet and a couple of recipes in the back. A new addition of the book has just been published but it is only the old book (the silent epedemic) in a new cover so not worth buying if you already have the original. Are you able to eat nuts? If so 6 almonds a day will help with your calcium intake. Kale and seaweed keep cropping up everywhere as being rich in Vitamin K. (but you probably already know that!). Keep in touch - it is good to share experiences.

| Thanks for that Margie, chopped apple, clery and cress sounds nice. I have been eating a lot more veg but although I like fruit do not seem to eat very much of it, I have to keep reminding myself and the easiest thing I can think of is leaving a dish of grapes in the kitchen and taking a couple every time I pass. I also try to eat a banana every day and dry prunes and figs. I am thinking of buying a juicer which should get me taking more. Someone asked about teeth problems, I have always had problems and at the moment have what feels like toothache at the bottom but cannot pinpoint it to one tooth because it moves around. I am a scared that it may be something to do with this jaw problem caused by Bisphosphonates I have been on for over five years. Have not been to the dentist yet as am hoping it will go away as I came off of Bs in October of last year.
