I have had amenhorrea now for 10 years and am 35. I have very very weak, brittle bones. Many doctors have advised me to go on estrogen and progestorone, but I am reluctant due to the risks associated with HRT and have yet to be convinced that they would strengthen my bones. Thanks for asking this - I hope someone out there can advise.

HRT and Osteopenia

Hi,

1) I've recently been diagnosed with Osteopenia, and because of this, my GP has recommended that I start HRT (I'm 43 years and post menopausal).

Question: What is the connection? I am wondering how (and to what extent) HRT would assist osteopenia?

2) Whilst I appreciate we are all different (!) my mother had an early menopause, was on HRT for (a staggering) 20 years, and recently when she was measured for height (she is 63 years old), had lost 2 inches.

Question: Is HRT and bone density non-related? Would the loss of 2" to her height be caused from other factors, and if so, any suggestions?

Many thanks.
